About the Manufacturers Intermediary Apprenticeship Program (MIAP)

The Manufacturers Intermediary Apprenticeship Program is an employer led and intermediary group sponsored NYSDOL Registered Apprenticeship Program. The first of its kind in New York State, MIAP has been funded by the New York State Legislature since its inception in 2017.

The Manufacturers Alliance of New York (MANY) began working with the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) in 2016 to obtain approval to function as a single “program sponsor” acting on behalf of small and medium sized manufacturers. This had never been done before in New York State and has proven to dramatically reduce the administrative burden on individual manufacturers and greatly streamline apprenticeship program registration. The program allows the NYSDOL to have a single point of contact for multiple employers, thus reducing some of their administrative burden as well.

This innovative approach has already provided hundreds of employers, across the state, the flexibility to hire apprentices when they otherwise may not have the internal resources to do so. Our ability to provide companies individualized program support, allows them to free up their limited internal resources to deliver on the job training.

Currently, the Alliance Partners sponsor over 30 different trades. Additional training outlines to be developed this year will support industry driven trades in growing sectors including dairy, computer gaming, cyber-security, childcare, and the energy sector.
